देश में बहोत लोग डिस्ट्रिक्ट मजिस्ट्रेट यानी डीएम और डिस्ट्रिक्ट कलेक्टर (डीसी) के अंतर को लेकर काफी कंफ्यूज रहते हैं

Who is District Collector ? | जिला कलेक्टर कौन है?
इंडिया में Revenue Administration के highest officer को district collector के रूप में जाना जाता है। district collector को District Commissioner के नाम से भी जाना जाता है।
District Collector District के फुल management का in-charge है, जो सभी Departments पर थॉट करते हुए उनके field के subordinate है।
एक District Collector के कामों का Purpose Land Revenue Collected करना या rent land revenue collected करने, District में set-up और law को बनाए रखने और general administration की निगरानी करने के लिए supervision करना है।
कलेक्टर की judicial power को District के judicial Officers को transferred कर दिया गया था, जो independence के बाद हुआ था।
हर District में एक District Collector या Chief Deputy Commissioner होता है, जिसे State Government Law, district administration और set-up की देखभाल के लिए appointed करती है। District के main administrative head को कलेक्टर के रूप में जाना जाता है।

डिस्ट्रिक्ट मजिस्ट्रेट को District का डीसी या डीएम भी कहा जाता है और उन्हें Deputy Commissioner या District Collector कहा जाता है।
डिस्ट्रिक्ट मजिस्ट्रेट Indian Administrative Service (IAS) के एक officer हैं। Indian Administrative Services के organization से, Officers को government द्वारा different states या Districts में appointed किया जाता है।
आईएएस में रखे गए Members को या तो association public service commission द्वारा सीधे नामांकित किया जाता है, आगे promoted किया जाता है|
और respectively State Civil Services (SCS) और non-State Civil Services (Non-SCS) द्वारा नामित किया जाता है।
State Government District Magistrate और district collector को एक स्थान से और एक स्थान पर transferred करती है।
District magistrate की कुछ Responsibilities हैं,

- Management of the state or district during the natural calamities like floods or any other epidemics (बाढ़ या किसी अन्य महामारी जैसी प्राकृतिक आपदाओं के दौरान राज्य या जिले का प्रबंधन)|
